Date format of column in CP collection

I would like to format the date of a related item in my columns for a collection.

Basically I have an article with a related edition item which has a publish date. I would like to format the date MMM YYYY. Currently I only get [object object] and not sure how to apply a filter.

In the collection folder's yaml I have

columns:
  - edition.date
