htaccess subdirectory install not working.

I am fairly new to Statamic and I have been trying to get my domain setup properly since day one and have yet to properly be able to have things work the way I want them. Here is the setup, my site wellgroomedlake.com has statamic installed in a subdirectory ( /wgl/ ) which I have marked correctly in the supplied Statamic 1.9 sample. I have also added it to settings.yaml. Yet when I go to my site it lists the directorys on my site instead of forwarding it to the /wgl/ folder.

Also, is there a way to have the forward work my covering up the /wgl/ sub folder in the reported url for example, When you visit the home page it would report wellgroomedlake.com instead of wellgroomedlake.com/wgl/.

I have been racking my brain on this and have looked and tried 15 different htaccess configurations and none of them are working. And yes I have cleared _cache and my browser cache as well to make sure changes show up.
