Support Expectations

What should I expect in terms of support response time? I understand that some issues take longer than others to understand/test/debug, etc but I'd certainly love to see something like "Got, we're looking into it and we'll update you in x days" so that I know at least it has been read and looked at.

I don't expect an immediate response of course (you folks are crazy busy), but I'd like to know what I should expect.

Also, what is the preferred method of "escalating" an issue to ensure it hasn't been missed?
